Troubleshooting for USB hardware license keys.

3.3.1. USB Key Not Detected

When the system doesn’t recognize your USB security key:

  1. Try different USB ports

  2. Check Device Manager (Windows) for driver issues

  3. Restart the computer with key inserted

  4. Update USB drivers if needed

Windows-Specific Steps

  • Open Device Manager and look for “Sentinel” or “HASP” devices

  • Check for yellow warning triangles indicating driver problems

  • Right-click and select “Update driver” if issues are found

3.3.2. Key Detected but License Invalid

If the key is recognized but the license doesn’t work:

  1. Verify the key matches the installed software version

  2. Check if maintenance has expired

  3. Ensure correct software version for your key

Common Causes

  • Using an older key with a newer software version

  • Maintenance agreement has lapsed

  • Key is for a different Itasca product

  • Regional licensing restrictions
