Troubleshooting for USB hardware license keys.
USB Key Not Detected
When the system doesn’t recognize your USB security key:
Try different USB ports
Check Device Manager (Windows) for driver issues
Restart the computer with key inserted
Update USB drivers if needed
Windows-Specific Steps
Open Device Manager and look for “Sentinel” or “HASP” devices
Check for yellow warning triangles indicating driver problems
Right-click and select “Update driver” if issues are found
Key Detected but License Invalid
If the key is recognized but the license doesn’t work:
Verify the key matches the installed software version
Check if maintenance has expired
Ensure correct software version for your key
Common Causes
Using an older key with a newer software version
Maintenance agreement has lapsed
Key is for a different Itasca product
Regional licensing restrictions
